I recall several years ago, prior to when the Internet wave hit and set the
foundation for a revised way of computing, how difficult it was to locate
solutions to problems and vendors of technology. I had to convince
management to subscribe to a twice annually published book entitled for
approximately $800 per year, for just one copy. And the information
was limited

I thought the Internet might assist me in my research.
As time went on, Internet site books were published that listed
thousands of Internet sites by category. This was very useful at first, but
these books served such a wide number of categories from Animals to Zoos (A
to Z) that they became of limited use to individuals searching for
technology related, or success story information. There had to be a better
way. ...

One day after receiving yet another request for research related to a
"which products can we use to......." question, I decided I was not able to
continue providing my clients with the proper quality of service I pride
myself on giving, and with a money-back guarantee. It was taking too long
to respond to such requests, and be assured I covered all potential
solutions.

At first blush someone may think, how simple a task. Here is a gentleman
who simply created a file of Bookmarks to various Information Related
topics to aid him in his research. Well it became more than this, as did I-
---I became my father, a "saver" of things. But a saver of important
references to aid myself and others in locating relevant information.

The key word here is "relevant". If you were to navigate to a search engine
site such as Yahoo, WebCrawler, or Excite and type in the word "Fax", you
would be presented with approximately 3 million matches. With the word
"Email" you would receive a similar number of matches (using
www.excite.com). How would one wade through all of these?

Even if you entered a compound search such as "Fax software" or "Fax
server", you still would be presented with such a large number of
"potential" matches that you would probably not have the time to select
those that best answered your question or provided you with "value added"
information. Well, my friends, we all have our strengths, weaknesses, and
obsessions.

I once again feel that the service I can provide is up to my own standards
and usually exceed those of my clients. At this stage, I have accumulated
over 5000 bookmarks, all related to Information Systems, even with a
category (folder) related to definitions of terms and another category
related to seminars and conferences. Realizing that both education and what
a new acronym or technology means is important to both myself and all
levels within an organization.

While I have found a site or two on the Web to assist in locating a product
they are not refined enough nor spur the imagination such as a simple list
of Bookmarks. I hope that you find them as useful as I have. The 5000 plus
Bookmarks reference such categories as:

Year 2000

The integrity of these bookmarks are checked every 60 days and
approximately 200-400 new references are added during that time and 5-15
new categories or folders.

These Bookmarks are readily used with Netscape's Navigator/Communicator
products by use of the "Import" function found within the Bookmarks menu.
For use with Microsoft Explorer there are Shareware utilities such as Navex
that can perform such functions on the Bookmark file downloaded.

Original Bookmarks a user has will not be overwritten. For Internet
Explorer users there is a wonderful conversion utility called Navex. This
utility can be downloaded from http://144.118.4.17/navex/

The Bookmarks are to be used on a single client machine for personal use
only. For any commercial use, copies in a corporate environment, or
inclusion on a corporate Intranet/Internet there is a licensing
charge for unlimited/concurrent use.

As this is shareware, the author suggests a contribution of $29.95 for each
singular PC/personal use of these Bookmarks. For Corporate/COmmercial use
and pricing, please contact the author- the product is not to be used in a
corporate environment without prior permission and pricing.

Note: Ten Percent of all money's collected will be contributed to charity.
